This #ThankfulThursday, we’re spotlighting two amazing SEL champions at JFK: Anna Lopez, Behavior Technician, and Elyssa Kotler, SEL Specialist. Anna Lopez – The Restorative Practice Advocate

Anna Lopez is a pillar of strength and compassion at JFK. As a Behavior Technician, she exemplifies the power of restorative practice pedagogy, helping students build trust, accountability, and community.

Her approach is deeply rooted in strength-based strategies, treating every student with respect and understanding. Anna’s work is driven by her unwavering belief in the excellence of every child. ekElyssa Kotler – The SEL Enthusiast

Elyssa Kotler is the heart and soul of social-emotional learning at JFK. Known for her bubbly and approachable personality, Elyssa’s presence is a beacon of positivity for students navigating challenges.

Her small group sessions are highly sought after because of her ability to connect deeply with students, helping them reframe challenges and focus on the positives. Elyssa seamlessly integrates SEL core competencies into classroom settings, giving students tools to regulate emotions, build resilience, and foster relationships. Her enthusiasm for SEL makes her not only a student favorite but also a dream collaborator for teachers who rely on her expertise to cultivate a thriving learning environment.


Together, Anna and Elyssa demonstrate the power of social-emotional learning to shape confident, resilient, and connected students. Their contributions are an incredible gift to our school community, and we’re so thankful for the work they do every day!
