For eight years, the Sage Park Leaders program has been at the forefront of nurturing leadership potential in 7th and 8th-grade students. This year, 30 passionate and dedicated students have taken up the mantle, continuing the program’s legacy of empowering young leaders to enhance their skills while making a meaningful difference in their community.
The Sage Park Leaders meet monthly to dive into leadership principles and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) activities, which help them grow into active and responsible citizens. These sessions are more than just discussions; they are opportunities for self-reflection, skill-building, and identifying ways to create a positive impact within and beyond the school walls.
One of the highlights of this year’s program emerged early in the school year when the leaders brainstormed areas where their time and talents could make the greatest difference. A resounding theme surfaced: mentoring and supporting younger students in Windsor Public Schools.
On December 11, the leaders turned this vision into action by visiting the kindergarten classrooms at Oliver Ellsworth School. There, they read stories to the young students and guided them through a winter-themed craft. The kindergarteners weren’t the only ones to benefit—our Sage Park Leaders gained valuable experience in mentorship, communication, and the joy of giving back.
Reflecting on the experience, Sage Park Leader Lillian Fangiullo shared:
"This program makes me feel confident and excited to lead. Working with the little kids was so much fun—it’s awesome to know we can make their day better!"
Jennifer Wilson, the program's dedicated advisor, also praised the students’ commitment:
"As the Sage Park Leader's Advisor, I am continually impressed by the exceptional leadership qualities demonstrated by the students at Sage Park Middle School. Their dedication to improving the community and making a meaningful impact is truly inspiring."
This initiative is a testament to the program’s philosophy: leadership isn’t just about personal success; it’s about uplifting others and creating a ripple effect of positive change. Through acts of kindness and engagement like this, the Sage Park Leaders are living out the program’s core mission and proving that leadership can start at any age.
As these young leaders continue their journey, they exemplify the spirit of #weareWINdsor 👐🏽, demonstrating that with the right guidance and opportunities, our students are capable of shaping a brighter future for all.
Stay tuned for more inspiring updates from Sage Park Leaders as they continue their mission to serve and lead in the Windsor community!
