Windsor Public Schools continues to shine as a beacon of educational excellence and cultural celebration. Just days before Clover Street School’s annual African American Read-In a cornerstone of the schools Black History Month festivities Governor Ned Lamont made a special visit to share his love for literacy and support the importance of Black History being taught in schools.

Clover Street School has gained recognition for its unique approach to celebrating Black History Month through literacy. The African American Read-In brings Black male community members into classrooms to share their favorite childhood books, highlighting the significance of reading while celebrating culture and community. This year’s Read-In will be held on Friday, February 14th, continuing a cherished tradition within the Clover community.

The Governor’s visit offered third and fifth-grade students an inspiring opportunity to connect classroom learning with real-world experiences. He was joined by Windsor Mayor Nuchette Black-Burke and Connecticut State Representative Jane Garibay, who read alongside him, emphasizing the importance of literacy and the richness of Black History.

Proud Principal Mrs. Tricia Lee expressed her excitement about the Governor’s visit, stating, “Our students witnessed firsthand that Black History transcends race and is celebrated by all Americans. It’s a testament to the rich tapestry of our learning community and the importance of seeing themselves reflected in the world around them.”

This visit comes on the heels of a state visit from State Commissioner of Education Charlene M. Russell-Tucker, further solidifying Windsor Public Schools' role as a leader in educational excellence and cultural celebration within Connecticut and beyond.
