It’s #ThankfulThursday, and this week we are celebrating two of Windsor’s brightest educators, Mrs. Carrie Canoni and Mrs. Monique Scott, who have just been named Hartford Yard Goats STEM All-Stars of the Game! 🏆⚾
The STEM All-Stars of the Game program, presented by the Hartford Yard Goats and CGI, recognizes students and professionals in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Honorees receive an on-field recognition, their names displayed on the outfield video board, and the unforgettable honor of throwing the ceremonial first pitch!
Mrs. Carrie Canoni: The STEM Visionary 🔬🚀
As the STEM Coach at Poquonock School, Mrs. Canoni ensures that every student engages in meaningful, hands-on STEM learning. Beyond supporting staff in implementing the STEM curriculum, she goes above and beyond by creating additional Science Lab experiences for students—because she believes every child should see themselves in STEM.
She also brings real-world connections into the classroom, working with NASA (Plant the Moon), West Hartford Children’s Museum, and local Windsor Master Gardeners to enrich learning opportunities. By highlighting diverse scientists, engineers, and innovators, she encourages students to dream big and embrace the limitless possibilities of STEM.
Mrs. Monique Scott: The Ultimate STEM Immersion Experience 🦎🔢
In Mrs. Scott’s Kindergarten classroom, learning isn’t just about numbers and letters—it’s a full STEM adventure! Her space could easily be mistaken for a children’s museum, packed with hands-on learning experiences that spark curiosity and creativity.
She enhances math and science instruction by incorporating real-life creatures into the classroom—this year, her students are caring for two axolotls and a bearded dragon! She challenges her young learners to go beyond the basics, inspiring them to join the "1000 Club" by counting and recognizing numbers far beyond the usual kindergarten expectations.
For the 100th day of school, she transforms her room into an Escape Room Experience, where students solve STEM puzzles, avoid "lasers," and unlock the mystery of 100—making learning truly unforgettable.
Both Mrs. Canoni and Mrs. Scott embody the Instructional Core Wheel every single day. Their classrooms foster critical thinking, self-awareness, and confidence, ensuring that ALL learners—regardless of their strengths and interests—find a place to thrive. They are true champions of Tier 1 Instruction, proving that when STEM is brought to life, students rise to the challenge.
Congratulations to our STEM All-Stars—Windsor is beyond proud! 🎉
